Stone Island
Stone Island was the brainchild of Massimo Osti, who launched the brand in 1982 as Stone Island Marina. In later years Marina was dropped from the name and Stone Island as a brand grew from strength to strength. True or not Stone Island draws its name from the ocean as some people say that was the name of Osti's fishing boat. Another influence of the sea was to be the compass logo that became Stone Island's emblem.
Massimo wanted to express himself with this new clothing line and one of his greatest influences was military uniforms. He wanted to fuse military styling with practical and functional fabrics something that had never been done before.
